Today I've got a couple of cat (real and yarn ones!) photos for you. I love cats and where I live there are quite a few strays who live outside. They are pretty wild and don't tolerate people too well. Luckily there are a few wonderful people who take them food and water every day and get them neutered so that the population doesn't get out of control.

I started to walk by from time to time to see them and there was this little black and white cat that really took my eye and I started to give him treats. In the beginning he would run away and only eat the food I left after I was far away, then after a while he'd start getting a bit closer. After a few months he's become really friendly and runs to me now when I call him! He's such a sweetie! Here he was last weekend investigating what I'd brought for him:

And last month I started a crochet cat following a pattern in a knitting book I've got. Crochet cat and knitting pattern? Yes! I'm a big fan of Tunisian crochet and the Tunisian knit stitch can pass for a real stockinette stitch. Anyway, the pattern I followed the pattern specifications and substitute the knitting for Tunisian crochet and here is the kitty:

I finished him this morning. I prefer the real one, but the crochet one is cute too :)

Here is the knitted one from the pattern book:

And in this next photo you can see a close up of the Tunisian knit stitch and see how similar it really is to knitting:

Knitted pieces are so great and there are so many beautiful patterns out there but I find working with two needles so fiddly and if I can avoid it and use just one hook, I will!

Other than that, today is 12/12/12 and at 12.12 this morning I took a photo of my clock:

There was an article in the paper this morning talking about 'date coincidences' and how this is the last one until the 1st of January 2101! Wow!

Baby dress

I finished it!

It is so cute and so tiny! It's the first time I've ever made a baby pattern and I had so much fun. I've already got out my stash of crochet magazines to see what other baby clothes I can make next :) I completely understand why my mum enjoys making baby crochet things now. I think I'll have a go at making a jacket and bootie set over Christmas.

This dress was made following this great this great FREE pattern. It's a really easy pattern to follow. Once I'd finished I added a little daisy and a single crochet border around the hem, arm holes and neck.

Christmas coffee and a WIP

I love Starbucks Christmas's so sweet and smells like Christmas! I had my first one this year at the weekend and it was delicious

Other than that, I weaved in the ends of all the granny squares I've made so far for my blanket/lapghan, I'm very proud of that because I normally leave that job until the very end of a project :)

Aaaaaand my WIPs are starting get a little out of hand because I've strated another one. A little baby dress:

I'm really enjoying following the pattern and it's working up pretty quickly. I'm using a DK yarn which I  think is my favourite weight yarn to work with - not too slow, not too fast!

I hadn't realised until I looked at the photo but I think this pattern slightly altered and in a thicker yarn would make a great cowl. What do you think?

Granny blanket

These last few days I've made a start on my first granny square project. I've made granny squares before but this is my first real project. I've got some stashed DK cotton yarn in a bright yellow and fuchsia and I started making squares:

If I've got enough yarn I'd like to make it into a blanket and if not I'll make it smaller and call it a lapghan :)

Look at all those ends I've got to weave in! I should make a start now, if I leave it all until I've finished all the squares I'll never finish it I know!

Other than that I've washed and blocked the shawl I've made for my mum and here it is:

Blocked Snowflakes

There are only 19 days to go until Christmas! I can't wait to decorate our house and I've blocked and stiffened some snowflakes ready to put on the tree:

Those last two are the same ones I posted photos of a few days ago. Blocking them really has made a world of difference. Especially to the last one. I didn't like it very much but once I blocked it, it became my favourite :)

To stiffen the snowflakes I used a 50% white glue 50% water mix and sprinkled a bit of glitter on them for added festiveness!

I have finished the shawl I started for my mum too. I'm going to block that this afternoon and as soon as it's dry I'll take some photos.

Other than that here is another little brooch I made:

How's your week going so far? :)
