Spring pretties

Hello everyone!

Spring is officially here. This is probably the prettiest time of the year where I live. Everywhere is green and there are flowers and pretty things are appearing all over...including here on my blog:

My latest project, a paperweight.

I've seen many beautiful crochet-covered stones on pinterest and have been quite inspired by them.

I bought a new magazine for this doily pattern:

I started to make it and a few rounds in, I thought the motif would be perfect to cover a stone with, so I made two:

...checked that they covered the stone...

And started joining them with single crochet

Everything was fun up until this point and then it seemed like all of a sudden the stone grew a whole lot bigger!

But with the help of a bunch of safety pins and a lot of pulling at the thread and hook, I got there in the end.

I got some new cotton thread last week:

I'm planning on making some colourful spring earrings and maybe another doily :)

What is spring inspiring you to make?

Have a wonderful weekend!

A gift

Today I want to show you a beautiful gift sent to me from my amazing blog friend Tanya:

Thank you so much Tanya! I love it!

This is a true gift she has sent me. I didn't win a giveaway or anything, she just wanted to send me something. How adorable is she?! :)

It's a handmade necklace made with two photos:

It has some silk and a piece of Arizona turquoise attached to it.

I love handmade things, I love the uniqueness and how the maker is reflected in the piece and even more so when it's been made by someone I know.

Tanya does the most amazing work. She makes beautiful jewelry, sews, knits, pretty much does all kinds of beautiful, crafty things.

Please go visit her and say hi, you'll love her work as much I do!

Her blog is Bead and Needle and she has an Etsy shop too.

I've been feeling a bit under the weather these last few days and I haven't done a lot of crafting, but I have made another mini doily:

I saw this Daisy doily made by Olga over at Lacy Crochet and liked it straight away.

I used size 10 thread and a 1.75mm hook.

I wanted it to be a coaster. It turned out a little bigger than I had imagined but I'm still going to use it as a coaster.

It's the perfect companion to my kitty mug with my natural honey and lemon cold remedy :)

Have a wonderful day!

Doilies

I really like doilies.

This is the newest one I've made.

I bought the magazine just for this pattern, I loved the hearts that appear towards the edge :)

I like making doilies so much that I don't even mind working in the round to make one...something that I always used to avoid.

So many people seem to dislike them but I see so many beautiful designs out there I can't help but love them. There are lots of wonderful vintage patterns you can find free online and I love to buy magazines with doily patterns, even if I never make them, just to look at them. Do you do that too, or is it just me? ;)

Do you prefer to work from charts or a written pattern? Here in Spain, most crochet magazine have charts alongside the written pattern. When working in the round, I prefer charts, they are easier for me to follow and in my case they leave less room for misunderstandings.

I worked on this doily under my afghan from last year

When it's cold out is so nice to be at home, warm and crocheting :)

I made this doily with size 10 cotton crochet thread and a 1.5mm hook and this is the perfect project to show why I love to block my crochet work:

I'm thinking of taking this doily and turning it into a cushion cover.

I'd use some upcycled fabric and sew the doily on to one of the side. Do you think it's a good idea?

Have a wonderful day!

Love

Happy Valentine’s day!

There is a lot of love and a lot of hearts around blogland today.

And I'm going to add to that:

To celebrate today I've made a crochet heart brooch <3

I made it with Aunt Lydia's Classic Crochet Thread size 10 and a 1.5mm hook.

It's just 3 hearts, joined together and I sewed a clasp onto the back to be able to wear it.

~

And here's a little peak at some yarn I'm working with at the moment.

It's colourmart Scarlet Silk DK yarn.

The colour of it fits perfectly with today and all the beautiful red hearts and roses that are everywhere.

I'm making a beaded shawl with it. Do you like to use beads with your crochet? I've started using them fairly recently but I'm quickly getting used to them. But now when I make something without beads now I look at it and think 'It would have been prettier with some beads' :)

~

I wish you all a very happy today and I hope you spend it with the ones you love <3

xx
