Baby shawl and bracelets

Earlier this year a friend of my mom's asked if I could make a baby shawl for her granddaughter.

She said she wanted it to be circular and made with white yarn. They were the only requirements!

So I looked through some old baby patterns I've got stored away, chose one and got  started.

This week I finished it:

The baby is due the middle of July so I left if a little late but this shawl is going to be mailed today so it should make it in plenty of time :)

It measures 43 inches across and I used around 150g of 3ply baby yarn to make it.

Another project I did this week was a bracelet. I got this on my last trip to England:

I looked online for a bracelet tutorial and found this one:

The girl explains everything is such an easy way and the finished bracelet is so pretty....so I got started:

Here's my version:

It brought back so many memories of making these kind of bracelets when I was a kid! I'm planning on making bunch of them in different colours to wear this summer.

Have a wonderful day everyone!

WIP Wednesday

Hi Everyone!

How are you all? I hope you're all very well and feeling crafty :)

I have been away from my blog and all your lovely blogs for quite a while but I'm back and over the next few days I'm going to start catching up with all your lovely makes blog by blog.

~

Here is something I bought recently, a cute layer cake, fabric and bias binding.

The layer cake is called color me happy by Moda Fabrics.

I've been wanting to try a big sewing project for a while now and after seeing so many wonderful creations online I decided it was time to give it a go so I jumped right in and started my first ever quilt:

I made  triangles and squares.....

Cut pieces, matched them to others.....

I had sore muscles in my arms from so much cutting and sewing but it was all worth it when I finally had the basic lay out of a quilt top:

I sewed it all together, ironed it and here it is waiting to be pieced together with the batting and quilted:

I am SO happy with my work! I feel like I really know how to use my sewing machine now and I can't wait to get the batting (I'm collecting it tonight!!!) and try quilting.

In May we visited my family back in England and went to Birmingham for a day to see one of my old university friends who lived in the city.

We met at the new library there. Isn't the facade lovely? I see ideas for crochet patterns all over the place, in nature and architecture, and with this building I thought it would be great to try and recreate it in some of my crochet. What do you think?

The library is spaced over four floors and has gardens with amazing views on the higher floors. It was so pretty and full of people enjoying it.

You can find out more about the library at their website.

I saw this outside of a shopping centre in Birmingham too:

I thought it was so funny!

~

Here in Madrid, I've been getting into the routine of going to the Retiro Park every time I go into the city centre.

It is a huge park, 1 180 000 m2, with all kinds of amazing vegetation:

A lake:

Ducks:

And if you look in the middle of the heart in this photo:

you'll see that there are even cats in the park!

I love cats and couldn't believe it when I saw one in middle of such a huge park. I googled it later and it turns out there are over 400 feral cats living in the park and there is a charity that cares for them.

Wow! It feels good to be back, I'd really missed writing posts :)

Have a wonderful day everyone!

Spring pretties

Hello everyone!

Spring is officially here. This is probably the prettiest time of the year where I live. Everywhere is green and there are flowers and pretty things are appearing all over...including here on my blog:

My latest project, a paperweight.

I've seen many beautiful crochet-covered stones on pinterest and have been quite inspired by them.

I bought a new magazine for this doily pattern:

I started to make it and a few rounds in, I thought the motif would be perfect to cover a stone with, so I made two:

...checked that they covered the stone...

And started joining them with single crochet

Everything was fun up until this point and then it seemed like all of a sudden the stone grew a whole lot bigger!

But with the help of a bunch of safety pins and a lot of pulling at the thread and hook, I got there in the end.

~

I got some new cotton thread last week:

I'm planning on making some colourful spring earrings and maybe another doily :)

What is spring inspiring you to make?

Have a wonderful weekend!

A gift

Today I want to show you a beautiful gift sent to me from my amazing blog friend Tanya:

Thank you so much Tanya! I love it!

This is a true gift she has sent me. I didn't win a giveaway or anything, she just wanted to send me something. How adorable is she?! :)

It's a handmade necklace made with two photos:

It has some silk and a piece of Arizona turquoise attached to it.

I love handmade things, I love the uniqueness and how the maker is reflected in the piece and even more so when it's been made by someone I know.

Tanya does the most amazing work. She makes beautiful jewelry, sews, knits, pretty much does all kinds of beautiful, crafty things.

Please go visit her and say hi, you'll love her work as much I do!

Her blog is Bead and Needle and she has an Etsy shop too.

~

I've been feeling a bit under the weather these last few days and I haven't done a lot of crafting, but I have made another mini doily:

I saw this Daisy doily made by Olga over at Lacy Crochet and liked it straight away.

I used size 10 thread and a 1.75mm hook.

I wanted it to be a coaster. It turned out a little bigger than I had imagined but I'm still going to use it as a coaster.

It's the perfect companion to my kitty mug with my natural honey and lemon cold remedy :)

Have a wonderful day!

xx
